I saved my ballot stubs from the 2016 election because I thought we would make history by finally electing our nation's first female president. We did not. So instead I chose to paint myself and three friends on my four ballot stubs, each of us pictured holding messages for the incoming administration. The ballot stub paintings are meant to act as a visual receipt symbolizing the four years of fierce and united opposition #45 has bought with his sexist and bigoted campaign.
My ballot paintings will be among hundreds of small works in two bi-coastal shows of the same name, Nasty Women. The original New York exhibition at the Knockdown Center in Queens opens on Jan. 12th from 7-10pm and has already garnered press from The Creator's Project (VICE), Huffington Post, Observer, Brokelyn, Papermag, amNY and Brooklyn Magazine. The sister Nasty Women exhibition I will also be participating in opens on Jan. 21st from 2-8pm at Helmuth Projects in San Diego, California. All proceeds from sales will be donated to Planned Parenthood.
I created this limited series of miniature paintings on my four 2016 ballot stubs in response to the incoming administration. Each are being sold for $100 to benefit Planned Parenthood.
